French lineup on April 19 in Vauréal: Resolve and Ashen, two rising stars of the French metalcore scene, shared the main stage at the Forum in Vauréal. The concert drew a sizable crowd, largely due to the venue’s proximity to Paris and the fact that Resolve had no dates scheduled in the capital during this tour.

Ashen takes the stage fairly early, and it’s a pleasure to see the crowd cheering them on as soon as they arrive. The support is palpable and heartwarming. Sixty percent of the set consists of songs from their album Chimera, which remains as popular as ever. The show kicks off with the title track and runs smoothly, with the musicians dancing energetically and Clem, the singer, regularly moving closer to the audience to belt out his most powerful vocals. Their classic Nirvana cover, Smells Like Teen Spirit, comes midway through the set, with everyone singing along. Their set ends with Outlier, and the band quickly leaves the stage to make way for their fellow countrymen.

Resolve takes a while to come on stage, but that doesn’t stop the crowd from cheering them on the moment they step out. After an Edith Piaf intro, the band quickly launches into Sandman. The set focuses heavily on the newest tracks from the extended play of their latest album, Human, including Molotov and Smile. However, the old classics aren’t forgotten - for example, Forever Yours is played at the end of the set. A well-chosen setlist that draws the most die-hard fans in the audience into circle pits and walls of death. The interludes of calmer acoustic guitar tracks give the audience a chance to catch their breath before the next wave of energy.
Furthermore, the band’s frontman, Anthony, explained that they chose the Forum de Vauréal because they wanted to move their concerts away from major cities to make the show more accessible to people who can’t always make long trips - which explains why most of the tour dates are in smaller towns than usual. A commendable choice!
Closing with Older Days, the band delivers an excellent set that leaves everyone in high spirits. The show ends early, allowing everyone to still enjoy the rest of their evening - and catch public transportation!
