The Carpenter Brut Hurricane at the Olympia, Paris!

The Olympia was set to welcome the electronic sounds and retro-futuristic aesthetic of Carpenter Brut on March 20th. A night that began with a relatively calm atmosphere thanks to Ultra Sunn, before taking on a whole new dimension when the master of synthwave took the stage.
The Belgian duo Ultra Sunn opened the evening with a set that gradually introduced the audience to their dark, electronic universe. While the atmosphere remained relatively laid-back, the crowd was receptive and warmly welcomed the opening act, making it the perfect introduction to what was to come.
Then the lights went out. And with them, the calm of the Olympia.

From the very first notes, Carpenter Brut turned the venue into a true battlefield. The floor seemed to literally shake beneath the pounding beats, while the crowd went wild to the sound of Major Threat, Leather Temple and Roller Mobster. It was impossible to remain a mere spectator for long: the sheer power of the live performance swept everything along in its path.
The French artist naturally drew from across his universe, bringing together new tracks from Leather Temple with songs that have become staples of his discography. Looking for Tracy Tzu, Turbo Killer, Le Perv and even Maniac, a cover of Michael Sembello’s iconic track, all made the Olympia vibrate down to its foundations.
And perhaps that is Carpenter Brut’s greatest strength: turning essentially electronic music into a true live experience. Where machines could easily create a certain distance, the energy unleashed on stage and the crowd’s reaction had the opposite effect. The entire venue seemed completely swept up in this succession of basslines, synthesizers and frantic rhythms.
After nearly an hour and a quarter of a true sonic storm, The End Complete brought the evening to a close. Carpenter Brut once again proved that his universe is not limited to a screen or a pair of headphones: live, it takes on an entirely different scale. And that night, the Olympia literally shook beneath it.
