This Sunday, March 15, L’Olympia hosted an exceptional lineup featuring three powerful and complementary bands: the American band Fox Lake, the Australian band Ocean Grove, and finally the current metalcore sensation, Poppy, headlining the show. It was a highly anticipated evening for many fans, who undoubtedly had a great time, despite a few minor hiccups.

The festivities kicked off in style with Fox Lake, who immediately set a breakneck pace. The band delivered a short but incredibly effective set, with each breakdown sending a jolt through the crowd. With heavy riffs and sharp delivery, the Americans created an electric atmosphere in the venue. They also established a genuine connection with the audience, who responded to every request from the singer. Between mosh pits and circle pits, fans showed their enthusiasm for the musicians’ talent on stage. It was, therefore, an energetic and powerful performance that truly got the venue fired up.

After a short break, Ocean Grove took the stage at L’Olympia. Almost immediately, the Australian band set a different but equally energetic tone. The singer instantly captured the attention of the entire audience as he ran, jumped, and sang his way across the stage. Interaction with the audience was constant, creating a genuine connection between the crowd and the band. The drummer’s precise and powerful performance was particularly impressive. However, not everything was perfect. A sound that was at times muddled unfortunately marred the experience, preventing the audience from fully appreciating their talent.

When Poppy took the stage, the atmosphere changed completely. Whereas the previous bands had focused on directness and interaction, she delivered a more structured, almost narrative performance, in which each song helped build a cohesive picture of her musical world. From the opening notes of Bruised Sky to the closing notes of New Way Out, Poppy delivered a precise, powerful show that had the crowd on their feet. The American artist skillfully blended controlled screams with almost angelic vocals, a mix of intensity and tenderness.

Alternating between industrial passages and more melodic atmospheres, she strung together her set with iconic older singles like BLOODMONEY and Concrete, true pillars of her discography, as well as new tracks from her hit album Negative Spaces, or V.A.N., her must-hear collaboration with Bad Omens, not to mention some tracks from her latest album, Empty Hands. The sounds of this latest album punctuated the setlist with standout moments. With kindness and politeness, Poppy asked the crowd to keep up with her frenetic pace through circle pits and walls of death, which the fans were delighted to perform to her great delight.

While the artistic quality of the evening was undeniable, one major flaw marred the overall experience: security management. Several fans reported inappropriate behavior by security guards, ranging from threats of ejection for attempts at crowd surfing to a clear lack of respect toward the audience. This regrettable situation stood in stark contrast to the positive energy radiating from the stage. We can only hope that these incidents will be addressed to prevent them from recurring at future events.

Despite these inconveniences, this evening at L’Olympia will be remembered for the power of its performances. Fox Lake kicked things off with controlled brutality, Ocean Grove set the stage ablaze despite sound issues, and Poppy confirmed her status as a must-see artist, capable of transforming chaos into a true work of art on stage.
