156/silence unveils its new album just before heading out on a European tour!

156/Silence is releasing From A Distance today, and has no plans to send out invitations. They’re letting you come on your own. It’s more economical that way. Following People Watching, released in 2024 -which had already shown a desire to break away from the standard metalcore formula- the band continues here to push the boundaries a little further. The first previews already offered us songwriting that was as diverse as it was surprising, with delightfully varied sounds. It’s enough to make you really want to hear a little more.

No Arms serves up a brand of metalcore that takes a few liberties, with bursts of neo-metal slipping in here and there. Then a much more delicate voice completely shifts the dynamic. Just what’s needed to make what follows even more enjoyable. Proxy Idols follows the same approach. Ready-made recipes are handy when you’re cooking. Not so much when you’re writing music.

On Swept From Under (Call of the Void), the raw scream takes center stage and grabs your attention right away. And while it commands all the attention, the rest of the track goes about its business. A detail here and there. Some sounds act like unannounced guests, but you end up keeping them at the table because, after all, they had a good reason to be there.

156/Silence plays with contrasts without trying to smooth them over. A synth that slips in, a melody that shifts the song’s balance… in the blink of an eye, the band has already managed to make us accept the improbable. It just goes to show that sometimes, musical genres can coexist just fine without ending up in a homeowners’ association meeting.

Three guest appearances also round out From A Distance. Tony Castrati (Crippling Alcoholism), Mike Hranica (The Devil Wears Prada), and Alex Reade (Make Them Suffer) join the band, each bringing their own touch and unique flair to the album.

So, will From A Distance be one of this year’s standout albums? Let’s wait a bit before popping the champagne too soon… but the bottle isn’t far away!
